Fuck MGS! Did you see Little Big Planet? God I want that game! I like how one of the lil guys has a Cardboard box as a head lol. On the PS3 Trailer, there is even a lil Beaner guy, with a lil Pancho, and Sombrero lol.... so want that game now...

I cant get that freakin song from the LBP video that was releaed on PSN a few months back. It gnaws at my brain...

I think Raiden is cool lol. Even though I don't think he's the greatest character, his ignorance and emoness helped MGS2's story more than if a sane person was the main character. :P

I honestly thought i was the only person that didn't mind Raiden... i didnt exactly think he was cool, but it didnt ruin the game for me or dampen the fun in any way.

The best thing i have seen from E3 is the Resident Evil 5 trailer. I guess it wasnt the best trailer in the world but im a RE fanatic. The game looks to be even darker than the rest. I cant wait ><.

I'm also happy with Playstations showing for E3. I am starting to get a little more faith in them. Who knows, maybe i'll actually play my PS3 again.

But Sony is losing exclusives... GTA IV, Assassin's Creed, Devil May Cry IV, Virtua Fighter 5, Beautiful Katamari, etc, etc, etc. Just because MGS4 is staying a PS3 exclusive doesn't mean Sony hasn't screwed up royally already. Not to mention that Konami's publically stated that they're not convinced at the stability of the PS3 as a business platform, so I wouldn't be surprised at MGS4 eventually coming out for other platforms after some amount of time anyway.

Having a game be exclusive at this point I don't think is enough to make people spend 400-600$ on a system...unless they're crazy. People will buy what they want to, loyalities are already set.

Why would a game developer want to be exclusive anyways? Unless the system company offers a kick-back the software people can make more money the more platforms they sell their stuff on...that's just common sense.

There are quite a few reasons why exclusivity occurs. Money is a big one. Obviously Microsoft PS and Ninty all want to be able to say "only on <console>." They are willing to pay for this.

With so many differences in all three consoles, now, it is often difficult to develop one game on three different systems. Ports are not as simple as they may seem. There are roadblocks. If a developer needs to have a lot of information stored on a cd, and they dont want to release a 4 cd set, they may exclusively develop for PS3 rather than Xbox or ninty. If they are having trouble developing for the PS3, they may go with the 360 exclusively. Plus, unless a lot of time is spent with a port, there is always a risk for framerate problems and glitching. Its often easier to develope for only one console.

Also, there is still a lot of brand loyalty out there, although that rarely last once the dollar signs start showing up... or not.

the only major super fuckin "jesus christ that shit is hot" exlusives 360 has(that catches MY eye) is halo 3 and mass effect. everything else isnt that great(to ME) and besides, microsoft bought exclusivity hoping it would help ppl ignore the fact the console is a poorly designed piece of crap that breaks every other month. so much so they have to shell out ->$1,000,000,000<- for the next 3 years to fix a problem they never should have had in the first place. for perspective on how much money that really is(you see all those zeros?): the USS George H. W. Bush, a nimitz class supercarrier being built which is named after George Bush Sr., costs about $4,500,000,000. microsoft is spending a fourth the price of a brand new supercarrier because of a problem that is their fault because they wanted to rush shit. more comparison! the 2008 budget request of the FDA(the folk that try to make sure we dont eat rat poison when we eat our hamburgers so we get nice and fat and make doctors rich) is $2,100,000,000. now two things on this; the fact that the Federal Drug Administration's yearly budget is half that of a fuckin aircraft carrier is pretty fuckin astoundingly scary and second off microsoft is spending half that amount of money on their precious 360 cuz they dont want ppl to ditch em and go cop Wii's or PS3's

My biggest beef with ps3 atm is the online store and content (I haven't been back on since they did a major add-on here recently). But seeing people with Live I was like "hm, that looks more smooth"

Now, when Home comes out, that'll be interesting. Just imagine all those wierd Sim-ites running around going "wanna game...no? ok, my avatar looks cool right? ok, wanna cyber?". How much in micro-transactions do you think Sony's going to charge for the "Pimp Pad" fully decked out with the champaine Hot tub and heart shaped bed. Sony's going to make a killing just with this alone. You'll be able to get your basic 1 bed-room apartment with the ikea close-out decor...but with a few clicks and a dollar or two here and there... call "Cribs" to film your new home!

I want to see if I can get a job working on Home. I'll pretend to be a girl and offer to cyber, but when I get to their house I'll go "ewe, no add-ons? yuck no thanks!" and watch the lil fucker click away to update their place! :P

well theyre supposed to ad movie and tv downloads to the ps store soon. instead of shitty arcade style games on the store theres gonna be at least 2 full games you can buy off the store this year, warhawk and socom 4. theres gonna be a heavenly sword demo soon too(halon said he'd be in the credits for it!) theres a lot of E3 trailers up now. gonna be an online add-on for tekken 5 soon. ill will have my notebook rdy for all the names im gonna be taking when that happens.

I really don't care who comes up on top. The reason I got a PS3 was because of the games that are going to be on it, like MGS, FF and now Little Big Planet!!. I don't really want to play any of the Xbox 360 game, and the ones I do will also be on PS3. This is just when PS2 came out, it just collected dust for about 1 year untill any decent game came out lol. I was going to buy an Xbox 360, but everybody I know who has one, has had to send it back 1-3 times already. I think I can count on my PS3 to last a long time, my PS3 lasted from the day it came out, up untill last year when I finally got that gay Disk Read Error. I have to admit I probably watch more Blue Ray Movies (Get Planet Earth!) than play games. The only game I like now is Resistance, untill I rent Ninja Gaiden. I'm in the Home Beta, but I tried to make my character a Taru, but it did not work... so I don't log in it anymore. Also about the exclusive, I think Sony should of done the same thing. Microsoft or w/e payed what? 50million for GTA Online junk? Kinda lame. If Sony expects to loose money on they're system, why not also loose some money on Exclusives? Oh well, I still love my PS3. I like wakeing up to its shiny surface after a long night of sticking my memory stick its its slot.

But seriously, why does downloadable content even matter that much? Maybe on the Wii it matters because of its different demographic, but for the 360 and PS3? I mean sure their are some good old school/new games that are fun, but nothing long term like a real good game. A ton of good games are coming out including: Bioshock, Assassin's Creed, Halo 3, MGS4, GTA4, Killzone 2... etc. Both system's will get great games, look forward to them! But I think everyone is missing the real point:

The Wii sucks. Nice line up of games... err what games? Not to mention the fact the controls have already lost their cool factor... And after SM Galaxy, Smash Bros and Metroid, my interest in the Wii will diminish entirely. Also if you argue about games, you can't include next years announcment of Legend of Zelda: Link Defeats Ganondorf: Part 48.

I bought RE4 for Wii a few days ago... Even though it's old, the controls on the Wii make it so much easier and fun to play.

I also had to change pants when they released Kid Chameleon for Virtual Console. :sweat:

It also makes the mercenaries missions a hell of a lot easier to do, which means easier access to the hand cannon :tati:

Yeah, but I wouldn't hold my breath for that. Some years down the line when the story is completly spoiled and all over the net we MAY see a version for a different system. But we KNOW that its coming out for Ps3 early 2008, no questions asked.

Its funny all the hype 360 got for E3, everyone wanted them to get MGS or FF, but just the opposite happend.. MGS announced exclusive for Ps3. So yeah, go for the sure thing or lose out and wait on something that may or may not happen. D:

On PS3 you just plug in a memory stick or card, usb flashdrive, cd whatever and copy them over, on Xbox360 its all complicated cuase they got that digital media control shit. 360 don't seem to recognize a flash drive, but PS3 does.

80gig sucks. its not very backwards compatibile(if at all i forget) with ps2/ps1 games. 60G is backwards compatible with most ps2/ps1 games and you can always upgrade the hard drive. you can always wait till the 14th and see what sony says about this 40G. from rumorish stuff ive read it seems to have better wifi and blutooh than the other two but nothing about backwards compatibility. i dont think it has flash ports and only has 2 usb ports. from what ive read at least anyways.

I would get the 60GB one if you can find it still. Thats the only model with the EE chip. If you care about playing PS2 games on your PS3 that model has like 99% compatiblity while the 80GB doesn't cause it uses software emulation.

honestly looking back when I first got my ps2.. I only used backward compatibility at the PS1 -> PS2 transition stage.. i don't think i would use backward compatibility that much if not at all now

my brother has a slim ps2 and my original ps2 is modded with a flip top case for swap magic.. so i'd probably still be playing ps2 games on my ps2

from what i read from the rumors the 40gig ps3 has only 2 usb ports but i'm guessing it's not that big of a deal since the ps3 is bluetooth (usb only for charging the sixaxis? D: )

Maybe I'll play FFXI again when the Vana'diel '08 whatnot pack comes out... for Xbox 360, naturally. I was about to buy the original on monday just for the hell of it, even with a broken generic GameStop box... until they told me they didn't even have it...

The problem with the Wii is going to be its longevity... I just don't see it lasting for a long time. How long can you play Mario, Zelda, and Pokemon... I mean after Galaxy and Smash Bros. what is there to look forward to? A bunch more 3rd party games that sucks and couple good 1st party games. Its just how the Gamecube was... Super Smash Bros. was awesome and a couple of the games that came out for it were... but after that it was kind of just dead with bad ports. I don't consider myself a fanboy of any of the 3 consoles... but right now the 360 is by far the best one out of them. Its combination of good games and great online have it far ahead of the competition. But if Sony delivers "Home" the way they keep advertising it, I can the see the PS3 selling a lot more. The ability to share content is going to be great, especially if it makes setting matches up with friends easier. There are tons of great games coming out for the 360 & PS3 soon... but the Wii has only a couple.

Here's a copy of my post from BG:

So, I went to the MGS4/Kojima signing at the Virgin Megastore in Times Square. We had someone start camping in line at 11:30AM, good thing we did because the fucking line reached around 2 city blocks. Here's some pictures of the line. We were standing on 46th and Broadway, basically a half a block away from the store which was around the corner on the left.

The Konami/MGS4 video crew came out and started interviewing random people in line. That was pretty fun. They basically picked out the loudest people they could find and started recording them. They then pulled a few fans to the side and got some quiet interviews. I got a couple pictures of them.

The Virgin event staff eventually moved us up to the front of the store.

They invited us into the store and walked about 200 of us down to the bottom basement of the store. They told everyone there they have to buy either the game or the bundle to get something signed. You were allowed to have one thing signed, but it could be ANYTHING. Some girl had her white DS signed Q_Q.

Then, once everyone was packed in, they switched every TV in the store to the MGS4 advertisement and Kojima and Yumi Kikuchi, the model for Raging Raven came down the escalator and everyone freaked out.

The staff there were really cool. They were going around the line and talking to random fans about anything and everything. When you made it to the front of the line, you gave Kojima's translator (who's name escapes me) what you wanted signed and Kojima and Kikuchi would sign it. They would even pose for you so you could get a good picture of them. There was some guy who camped out in a cardboard box dressed like Snake. When he got to the front of the line, Kojima grabbed the cardboard box, signed it, then stood up and held the box in the air. Everyone cheered, I wish I had gotten a picture of it but I wasn't really thinking about it at the time. Eventually I got to the front and got 2 really good pictures of him.

He thanked each person who gave him something to sign for buying the game, then passed the item to Kikuchi who would sign as well. Then you were escorted off the floor to the 2nd basement where a bunch of free shit was given out.

It was a really fun experience. It was a steady 75 degrees out at all times so it was perfect weather. Sorry for the kind of shitty pictures. They came from an LG Chocolate haha. My girlfriends brother videotaped the whole thing and plans on putting it up on Youtube tomorrow. I'll post it here if he does it.

Everyone there got really lucky because the day before (as well as the previous week) it was SCORCHING hot. It felt like 90-100 degrees out. They got really lucky DAY OF camping the store, temperature dropped. I would have died out there if it was still 100 degrees lol.

----In context of raw systems sales, its the "leading" system, however as far as the context of winning its been all 360, they've flat out tried harder, they've tossed the money when needed and secured games for their system that have been either exclusive or time exclusive for a relevent amount of time. ----Nintendo's market strategy thus far has found a way to be absolute genius and "WHAT THE FUCK IS WRONG WITH THEM" stupid simultaniously. On one hand they pulled off a serious power move by actually garnering the entire casual gamer market to their end with some quality easy access games and immediate showings of thier established licences and on the other end allowed any third party with enough money to pay the licensing fee free reign to release and and all cookie cutter/half assed game into the market since its assumed (correctly so) the avg Wii consumer wont know the differnce between Mario Kart and M&M's Go Kart. The Wii has essentially become "the system Mom has" when raw sales numbers are pushed out, is not the market we're typically used invisioning, 13-30 year olds, that systems appeal ranges further 10-60. ----Almost seems as if Sony took nearly the same approach to the market as Nintendo did when it fell to Sony during the PS/N64 era "The market is ours and we'll have the games cause we're guaranteed the #1 sales slot" For whatever reason Sony decided to release a system that despite their spin isnt all that much more advanced than the 360 or is just too mind numbingly difficult to actually tap the power of and they've held no leverage on the subject of "graphical showcase" all the multiplatform games past and future are essentially or promised to look/play/be exactly the same apon their release and with Dev's seeming to actually produce on 360 hardware and then port over afterward has led to a few instanced of the 360 version actually being "superior" due to running a faster framerate/sharing graphical glitches/texturing. ----Mabey its a prediction of the coming market trends or perhaps Microsoft following the same line as their predecessors but with the Dev teams they once held exclusive continue to go independant or sign with large publishers like EA/Vivendi/Activision-Blizzard its almost guaranteed Microsofts time being able to pay their way through is running out also. I am kind of amazed at the amount of Japanese RPGs the 360 is getting giving the fact that Japanese consumers hate the 360 since it isn't made by a Japanese company. They hardly sold any 360s in Japan, yet they have a ton of Japanese companies making games for it instead of the PS3.

At E3 Nintendo kinda said "fuck you, heres some shit you don't want to play" to their long time fans, there was no signs of any of their classic games they are known for like Mario, Zelda, Star Fox, Metriod anything like that. They just showed of games that appeal to the really casual market. They have yet to release a Zelda game that has been designed for the Wii, TP was made for the GC with just the controlls tacked on so I don't really count that as a new Zelda game.

Since SSBB came out I don't really see anything else that I even want to get for my Wii.

Also, I consider "winning" to be the most profitable, because you can bet that's what Microsoft, Sony, and Nintendo care about in the end. I'm not a Wii fan, but they're undeniably doing the best because not only are they winning in system sales, but unlike Sony and Microsoft, they're making a profit on each system sold.

You can argue about hardcore vs. casual gaming all you want, but I can't see any real context in which Microsoft is beating Nintendo right now, unless you consider ONLY the hardcore gaming market. Then maybe I'd agree with you.

I have to agree with you there. On every front, Nintendo is owning this generation. But... my thing is, I don't consider Wii to even be in direct competition with 360 and Ps3 as a next gen console.

Wii has older technology, and is basically winning because its cheap and has a gimmick that caught on. While this may be the next evolution in what a real appealing console is, I don't want it to be, so I won't acknowlege them as direct competition. I consider Wii to be like how handhelds are, just not a real next step in evolution, just people cashing out by being cheap.

If everyone followed in Nintendo's footsteps, then I'll gladly retire from hardcore gaming. (Actually, compared to last gen I already have!)

As for 360 and Ps3.. and FF.. I think that MS gaining a lot of sony exclusives from last gen doen't make 360 all that great. In the end, they have yet to really "steal" anything, like how Sony flat out took support away from nintendo and sega in the Psx ages. And they didn't take it with money, they took it by simply being a more appealing console to develop for.

MS is just throwing around cash everywhere, and from the original Xbox's release until now have yet to turn a profit. Though they originally said they don't plan on turning one until their third generation out... so guess they're still on track.

As for FF directly I'd say Ps3 owners shouldn't be worried.. Ps3 owners knew it was getting FF13 over a year ago. And at E3 nothing changed. 360 owners didn't know until then that they were getting it too. With how far FF is off, if that directly affected you buying Ps3 over 360, then that's your bad. :P Gotta wait for the real info.

The standard for a 360 doesn't even include a hard drive so I don't even know what you're talking about? There are 360s with no HD at all. MS stupidly goes through a long process of creating the HD for the 360 which makes it stupidly expensive for owners. Blu-Ray is the MAJOR fact on the capability of MGS4. The game took up a disc, so if you enjoy installing 50gigs worth of uncompressed video and data files on your HD, be my guest.

I'm not even sure on how much SPUs MGS4 uses from the Cell Processor either.

The 360 is a great console, I just don't like how M$ has been approaching the whole side of gaming. Like Vivec said, they try to lure games with money (it is a business, and thats the number one reason behind these three companies). Not to mention the unreliability of the damn thing and 360 owners always trolling ps3 for some reason :rolleyes:

You know i never played D&D, but i did play a swedish fantasy RPG called "Drakar och Demoner" (dragons and demons). Because playing american games was for old people who knew english. (This was in the 3rd-4th grade.) Best RPG ever was Mutant though, post-apocalyptic game set in scandinavia with tons of insane stuff.
How about a character that is a mutated duck? Talk like Donald all through the gaming sessions ^^

Well, to understand the current-gen system war, you need to step back and look at the brands, not the hardware capabilities or the software available. The Playstation was the de-facto gaming console brand for over a decade, and that kind of explains Sony's lack of concrete competition this time around... as a company, they must've felt like the "next-gen" war was already over as soon as they announced the PS3, simply because it's a Sony. Also part of that was their attempt to push new technology (Blu-Ray and Bluetooth contollers) through their system, since they assumed people would be buying the new Playstation anyway. Now they're playing catch-up because things didn't quite work out the way they had anticipated.

Microsoft on the other hand had a real dud with the first Xbox. They're trying everything they can, and spending boatloads of money to increase public perception of the Xbox brand. They've got the money and can afford this, and the brand build-up is more important now, so that when the *next* Xbox comes out, they'll be more in a situation like Sony, where people will just want to buy one because it's an Xbox. I actually think this strategy is winning the current-gen war, since software is really what makes the platform, not the hardware... neither the PS3 nor the Wii have anywhere near the games library that the Xbox 360 does, both in quantity and quality.

Lastly there's Nintendo. Nintendo's been nipping at the heels of its competitors ever since the N64, and they really want to change that. They realized that their strength is not hardware performance, but gameplay, so they ran with that. Add to that their decision to focus more broadly (increasing their customer base) rather than deeply (going for the core gamers), and they've got a very profitable business, and their brand is back on the top of people's minds. Of course, they realize that they've pretty much lost the "hardcore" market, so they're not even bothering to cater to those folks... and the addition of the gigantic casual market has more than made up for it.

Oh and Yummy, the hardware failures on the 360 really can't be singled out as a problem against the system. All 3 platforms have had their issues (I just read a couple days ago about widespread problems with PS3 blu-ray drives failing), and plenty of people don't have issues with any of the systems. I have a 360 (not launch model, but one made in the first year of availability), and have never had any problems with it. I think the Xbox owners just tend to be more vocal on the internet when their stuff breaks, so you hear about it more.

and rayj thanks for posting mostly games that were made on 360 first then ported on ps3 ^_^ i'm sure it's easier compressing a 15gb game under 9gb than 50gb. most developers develop for the 360 first then port it to the ps3

Fortunately, they were both covered under warranty (well, actually, the 360 was only covered due to the extension I got from its RRoD service, and the PS3 was only covered due to widespread problems with GTA IV on earlier consoles).

We always knew the Xbox 360 failure rate was high, but the only time Microsoft's put any sort of solid numbers on the thing it was always somewhere around 5%. Retailers, on the other hand, have just reported a failure rate of somewhere over 30%.

I'm pretty sure the XBox 360 has a higher failure rate among other systems this generation.

Some people I know are already on their 3rd 360s. x.x

360 fail rare is around 30% which is why Gamestop stopped selling their warranties for 360s cause they lost so much money

So, the moral of the story is that the 360s fail, but 360 owners are more than happy to put up with it because they like the system anyway, making hardware failures are irrelevant in the context of this discussion anyway?

and because every vendor wants to make a buck by offering an extended warranty which is worth getting anyways because MS upgrades the hardware on the systems every 3-6 months. Combine this with price slashes over the years and its a damn good ROI.

I don't think M$ is winning with quality alone trynn, most of the top selling games are on both consoles. They won cause they realized how important getting a head start on the competition is, but they mixed that with knowing the system wouldn't sell itself just because its the only one there. They were smart enough to buy support and actually really try to at least put themselves at equal quality with the PS3.

They probably just saw what sony did different then Sega and Nintendo over the last two gens. Sony is just as guilty as MS is now for rushing out hardware, and having it over priced at the gate.

Sony's biggest weakness.. that people knew about for ages.. has just started to hurt them. The fact that most of their top franchises were exclusive 3rd party games. That's probably the reaosn MS jumped into the mix in the first place, as long as a big game remains 3rd party, there's always a chance you can buy thier support.

For some reason the forum kept mashing everything together, after 5 times trying to fix it i put those hash marks in just to help a bit. I'd avoid using profitability as a watermark for success, Nintendo used to use that line every 2 sentances during its last 2 years with Gamecube when compared to thier competition and the common knowledge they werent doing so well by comparison. Nintendo always made a profit on selling the GC and hardware and it was a fact they never let anyone forget(especially during Reggie's first couple speeches with nintendo), thats nintendo's buisness philosphy, profit first > features later they dont need any help on brand recognition to get systems in peoples hands

It just hit me in the face today after wondering what SE was going to announce at their private party. If you didn't know:

The most cryptic statement though, is when Hashimoto is asked about Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children Complete, he replies "You can look forward to the upcoming invite-only fan event DKS3713, where we'll have a major announcement that will shock the fans in attendance."

I can't find the fucking quote but the announcement IS FFVII related.

Shane Bettenhausen of 1up claims that he's been talking with Square Enix reps, and says he's been told that "the FFXIII announcement shifted the ball towards 360; this DKΣ3713 will shift the ball back towards PS3."

Now an FF7-Remake seems really unlikely since the team from the original is either working on FFXIII or somewhere else:

I haven't played FF7: Crisis Core but from what I understand it had the character Genesis involved. At the end of FF7: Dirge of Cerberus there was a secret ending showcasing "G" - or Genesis taking Weiss' body and flying off with it. Do you guys think it could be a new & final FF7 game?

FFVII: Crisis Core > Final Fantasy VII > FFVII: Advent Children > FFVII: Dirge of Cerberus

It was also stated by SE people the Dirge of Cerberus doesn't necessarily mean it was the end of the Compilation of Final Fantasy VII - rather it was the end to Vincent's storyline. I can't find the source but if you guys want I can look for it.
