FINALLY S/E IS DOING SUMTHING ABOUT THAT PESKY 2 HOUR  ->http://www.playonline.com/ff11us/information/1122.html<-
Man fuck you I wanted to start this topic.
anyways...
It makes it look like exping drg isnt going to be as tough. Wonder what the buff to jump will do. (God hopefully teleport them to Home Point and switch them to war or sam)

Well, they're not buffing the job in the slightest. Just the 2 hour, and giving the wyvern subtle blow. In exp parties and HNM fights, people's main complaint wasn't 'zomg, wyverns give too much TPz' or 'drgz needz a bttr 2 hour' it's a complaint about an overall lack of damage. And none of the listed changes say anything about buffing the job. Just that they can summon wyverns every 20 minutes. I hate that flying rat, it always would be in the way of me when I was running around trying to place SA and TA. :eyebrow:
They also talking about changing how mobs get tp so this could be a bigger buff to drgs than one would think
but oh well rumor is they also saying heres 3 more avatars smns
live it up

why do you think there were so many rngs scionith ? CUZ S/E DIDNT FIX DRG THE BIASED BITCHES >:O also its well documented and tested that in exp pts a drg with a wyvern can (with the proper gear) can do nearly as much dmg as a war sumtimes more ->OVER TIME<- talkin bout parser type dmg not a 1k or 2k ws. drgs arent just about dmg either. allowing drgs to summon their wyvern once every 20 mins will just help keep that dot dmg up. true a btr ws would be good or just changing the mobs polearms are useful on would be enough. i mean penta thrust is nice on the right mobs. this in addition to the drachen +1 might help ppl to respect drgs a bit more.

I was in an exp party with my lvl74 THF and a 'well equipped' 75 DRG who had his wyvern out the whole time when we were fighting weapons (lots of spirit link, and whirl was flashed most times). He was running a parser, and told me that I was just barely shy of him and his wyvern's damage combined every fight. You should also keep in mind that my thief is /nothing/ special.
I know most of DRG's dmg is in DoT, but even that is outshined by other jobs like Monks, Ninjas (at higher levels), and even warriors have a relatively high DoT. This is just exp monsters though.
If you want to talk about HNMs, then on any tough HNM, DoT for melees is almost nil. Seriously on a HNM, the wyvern can outdamage the DRG, since they'll pretty much never hit for 0. But other jobs don't have quite as hard of a time, one reason is gear options. If they want to boost weak melee jobs like Thief or Dragoon, they need to give them decent armor. Any Dragoon or Thief would kill to have something like a Haubergeon, much less something like an Adaman Hauberk. Probably the best armor for meleeing as a THF or DRG now is the Homam Corazza, and that's just because it has +15 Accuracy, the enhances triple attack is something low like 5%. Before they added that, it was either a Scorpion Harness+1 or Assault Jerkin. Compare any of those to an Adaman Hauberk... +10 STR, +10 DEX, +15 Accuracy, +15 Attack. The Hecatomb Body which Thieves and Dragoons wear for WSs is +12 STR, +10 Accuracy, and +13% Slow. Even without the slow, it would be an inferior meleeing armor piece. Now that I beat that dead horse enough, there's the matter of WSs. Jobs like Samurais and DRKs can SA+WS easily for 2x the damage any Thief or Dragoon can do with a SATA+WS, easily more than 2x actually with enough TP.
Point is, this isn't going to balance melees at all. If the DRG 2 hour is powerful enough, it might give them a great use every 2 hours. But none of the other changes are really going to help them HNM wise the rest of the time. And if thieves didn't have treasure hunter, they'd be the most shunned job in HNMs.
(yes, I turned my rant into how thieves suck at damage too :(, the best thing thieves have going for them is that they can make light and dark and land the WS 100%)
You both did the right thing
and lvld blm

i completely agree drgs dont get to use gear nearly as good as other jobs. on hnms drgs are nowhere near as useful as other jobs. ive always felt that making wyverns the drg 2 hour was kinda silly seeing as they can be killed pretty easily. all im saying is s/e is finally realizing the hole theyve put drgs in, whether conciously or not, and are tossing them sum spiked boots so they can start to climb out. maybe they nvr intended drg to be a great dd like drk or sam, but if i remember right they originally didnt intend on nin being a tank but gave it a lot of tanking equipment as they realized ppl use nin tanks. maybe theyll give drg btr equip to make em equals to other dd jobs. as for what ray said mebbe so. now that rng isnt as good as it once was everybody is lvling blm. i see more and more ppl lvling blm as time goes by.

Heh, I'm not actually leveling BLM for the purpose of HNMs (although I'm sure it'll be used). I started leveling it because I saw how easy BLMs soloed stuff in Sea, and it looked like fun. I also liked the idea of being able to solo for decent exp. While I can solo with Ninja and Thief, it's certainly not that easy, and no where near the same exp BLM can pull in.
Oh, but I already know that THF and DRG will never be made on par with other DD jobs on HNMs. If THF could do the same DD, then why level jobs that don't have TH2? If DRG could do the same DD as other jobs, then they would be unbalanced because they can do things like sub WHM and also be a pseudo-healer. So yeah, they'll probably never get boosted too much DD wise, and there's reasons for it I suppose. But it sure is fun to complain. :coffee:
I can't decide whether I like that they changed DRG. I wanted to level it before they changed it. :(
Yet... I probably wouldn't have gotten around to that anyways.

DRG was never THAT bad in exp pt. Their DPS was really just shy of the other average melee when they had their wyvern out, and these buffs should significantly enhance their viability in exp pts.
That said, the question still exists: to what end? The biggest problem with DRG, in my opinion, is the complete lack of a place in the end-game for DRG. And it really looks like these changes don't address this issue at all. The end game seems to be mostly about doing minimal damage while gaining TP, then WS and SCing for uber damage ... and Square-Enix forgot to give DRG a weapon skill that does anything better than crap damage (or at least a WS that can SC with anything worth a damn).
In the end though, I guess we won't be able to tell until the update takes effect. I'm curious what additional effects Jump might have while 2-hour is active, given that the 2-hour sounds like BST's Familiar, which lasts 30 min (I think?). A stun additional effect would be pretty cool.

DRG skillchains with other jobs pretty well, its just their WS dmg usually blows. The SC incompatability is a myth, because the DRG WS that gets the most attention (penta thrust) can only close gravitation (which usually blows).
DRG can open distortion starting at lv 3 (double thrust, skewer, vorpal thrust), close fusion (skewer), close fragmentation (vorpal thrust), open/close light (mnk, thf, drk), and open/close darkness (war, sam, drk).

Like that Galka AA huh? That jump was annoying. -.-
And yes, the BST 2 hour lasts 30 minutes I believe.

Ya Alex, that's what I meant, I just didn't convey it properly ... they have good SC flexibility, but their SC-able WS don't do much damage.

New Dragoon Abilities:
Dragon Power: Melds Dragoons pet to the character giving them the temporay effect of Red-bull "It gives them wings"
During 2hr:
Ultra Jump: Dragoon's jump into the air high above the battle scene and experience an epic 4 minute power up cutscene ala Dragon Ball Z. During said time their additional effects and abilities can be used:
1) Run for pizza: While your character mindlessly talks about how it will defeat the enemy for 3 minutes you have plenty of time to run to the fridge, nuke some pizza, and get back in time to catch the awe inspiring 4 minutes of screaming and glowing.
2) WC: See above
3) Alt-tab: Once you've become bored with the constant muscle flexing, shouting, insults, and excessive use of doing nothing, you can easily log out of the game mid-move. Your pt won't miss you so why should you worry.
If in the event you are able to complete Ultra Jump you will experience another 4 minute cut-scene of your character launching weapon first towards the enemy. This is also joined with a series of more shouting, glowing, flexing, and wasting time. The moves mighty climax comes when the Enemy is made aware of your presence after your 10 minute bitch-fest, where they take one step to the left. At this time you are greeted with text that is familiar to all Dragoon:
Your Ultra Jump misses.
